Worms World Party – REAL, working fix for Win7/8/XP

I finally came upon a forum with the ultimate fix for WWP and I just wanted to share it with all of those who got any of the following errors…

> Flashing black screen with a “WWP stopped working” window.
> Colors screwed up.

I tested this fix in different Windows 7 (Ultimate, Pro, Starter, x64/x86 bit) and not only will it finally run but you will have the chance to have it running in windowed mode, this means you can change screens while playing!

5 June, 2013 – A new update released!

Features:
+ Now the windowed mode can be enabled using the settings file. There is no need in downloading separate DLLs. Fullscreen is now the default.
+ Windowed mode separated into two: for frontend menus and the in-gameplay process. They can be enabled as you like.
+ Added troubleshooting compatibility options for users with rare and exotic problems, some of which were posted in this thread. Please see the FAQ for the description of what they can solve. Only enable if you are affected by the problem! Otherwise you will just lose some features, such as proper minimizing/maximizing (in all modes).
+ Completed the minimization feature, added Shift+Esc to minimize the game.
++ Fullscreen: minimization is supported only when playing the match due to crash issues in frontend menus. Now the resolution is properly restored when you switch from/to WWP.
++ Windowed: minimization is fully supported everywhere as usual.
+ Added Alt+F4! Now you can quit the match immediately just like in WA by pressing Alt+F4, and return to the last menu. Additionally, pressing Alt+F4 in a frontend menu will exit WWP.
+ Unintentional: for some reason now you can launch multiple wwp instances. I’m not sure if this existed before (most likely did). Use only for testing purposes.

“A small update (1.3.2.1) released.

This one will be especially useful to Windows 8.1 users who are using a DPI scaling other than 100% or 125% (on previous systems, the “Use Windows XP style scaling” setting would help). Due to the new Microsoft policy, non-dpi-aware apps are blurry now if you aren’t using 100% or 125%. In case of WWP this disrupted the interface (cutting the bottom right part of the screen), and was mentioned by a user here before.

Now the fix will make WWP dpi-aware so you will run the game normally just as if there were no dpi settings at all, without problems, and the FAQ entry about this problem will not be needed anymore.

  1. I never thought that this game will run at all on Windows 8 seeing all the problems in even Windows 98 and Me with it. But with this fix, everything works!

Really great work! Thank you very, very much!!

      • my current aim for an update is to allow proper minimization in fullscreen mode (problem: I don’t know how to detect when a user minimized/maximized the game to restore desktop resolution, I’m looking for ways to allow that), also adding quick workarounds for a small percent of people with exotic systems (there are a few little issues happening on 0.1% of systems that can only be solved by providing an optional, sometimes feature-killing, workaround): so, settings file enhanced for these options and both fullscreen/windowed in one archive, switchable by a setting. worth to note I am a bit too unexperienced in programming and trying myself to make as best as I can. let’s not forget that the wndmode.dll (by menopem & VEG) is the essential core for making it all work: it’s a wrapper and transforms DirectDraw games into a window, taking all the work to itself, which is why the game doesn’t crash anymore because wndmode tells it what video mode to use, and handles it automatically. all I did was tweaking this to properly support WWP (Team17 programmers didn’t care too much at that time about fixing internal issues which I have faced: white screen upon game start, multiple windows and impossibility to click, white fields instead of input forms/comboboxes, etc). so, in fact, it all already worked but needed to be adapted specifically for WWP.
as for worms armageddon, with the newest december update 3.7.0.0 which introduces Direct3D 9 rendering it’s now possible to have a native windowed mode, so me and Kawoosh made D3D9Wnd, giving the best WA can provide in terms of windowed mode (given some few little old Team17 frontend issues too). it is available for download on the Worms Armageddon subforum of Team17 forum.

  2. I just downloaded it not hoping much from it since all the patches I’d got did not work at all. BUT THIS ONE DID! I’ve got Win7 and it works. So thank you very much for this. I enjoy the game from time to time.

  3. I’ve got the disc for worms wold party and it loads fine I can see the main menu fine but when I go to make a team I cant see what’s in the drop down boxes they are just white I cant see what’s there and when I go to play the game my screen just goes white I have sound but no picture :(

  5. My last post disappeared. . .

The fix finally allows me to launch worms, unfortunately I can only see some of the screen. It’s like I can see maybe 3/4ths.

I’ve fiddled with my resolution and followed the FAQ, all to no avail. Any ideas?

      • For those who aren’t using the forum link posted above, and have this same issue. StepS resolved this with the following suggestion:

go into WWP.exe properties, “Compatibility” tab, then check “Disable dpi scaling on high screen resolutions”

  6. Hola crei que nunca en mi vida jugaria de nuevo a esta obra de arte!!!! Funciona 100% me has alegrado el dia carajoooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lo he probado en windows 7 64 bits.

  7. I love you, I love you, I love you. This is one of my favorites games of all time and I tried so many patches but none of them worked. But finally I will get to play this awesome game again. THANKS !!!!

  8. It doesn’t work for me, when I launch the game; it runs perfectly fine! until I get to the battle field. The problem must be contained within Windows 8, which I hate. – I want my beloved Windows XP back. =l

    • Please come to the forum and describe the problem in detail, in particular, what happens when you “get to the battle field”? It runs perfectly on Windows 8, but a few systems may still have discrepancies. Did you try the compatibility options advised by FAQ? Since I cannot guess your problem you need to let me know what happened.

    • if you provide information about what exactly doesn’t work, I may be able to help you and you’ll be happy running the game again.
if you don’t though, I cannot help and therefore the ending will not be so good.

  9. Holy crap on a cracker!!! This is AWESOME!!!!! Thanks alot for this help dude. Have been looking for info to help me play this and now it works great on win7.
    Thanks and Thanks again!

  11. holy fuck! the original REAL fix didn’t worked for me… tried the FAQ also, but Chrizonic, you made that link, I downloaded it… maybe it sounds strange but my menu got “slower” because everything in the menu like the clouds were fuckin fast :D and first try is a crash, but then every single game is works! many thanks to Steps.. and many thanks to Chrizonic.. I don’t know what you did or what is the difference, but Chrizonic, somehow “your fix” did it for me! :D

    • Are you on Windows XP? I accidentally broke XP compatibility in the latest version, in favor of 8.1 compatibility. I’ll fix this when I find time.

    • Hey RoyalScopez! Glad to hear you can enjoy wwp again!
But it is not my fix. StepS and his team made the fix…
I just found it and shared.
You can go thanks him in his official forum

  12. Great fix, thanks much, not only to those who made it but also to you (found it on your site ;) You seem like really great person, thanks again :)

  13. A new update has been released, tagged 1.4.0.0.

    Changes:
    ● Restored the Windows XP compatibility (it was accidentally broken in the previous release)
    ● Removed the two compatibility options: “UnhideT17WindowInGame” and “Force1024x768InGame”, as the issues that would require their use have now been identified and resolved.
    ● When playing in windowed mode, you can now unpin the cursor from the game window by either alt-tabbing (if the new “AutoUnpin” setting is enabled: default is enabled) or pressing Ctrl+G. This will allow you to move the window around if the Border is enabled. Pin it back by clicking inside the window (or using Ctrl+G again).
    ● Added support for the window border, which did not work before. It can be enabled by setting the “Border” setting to 1 in the wndmode.ini file. The window border will only show up during the gameplay; there’s no border in the menu screens.
    ● Added base for the future high-resolution hacks. This version will already support the high-resolution hacks (such as HD menu screens and HD gameplay) when they are released. This may happen in the near future.
    ● Now, if the 640×480 (or the required) frontend resolution is not supported by your system, GPU or monitor, the module will throw a warning, describing the error, and will switch you to the windowed mode. If such an error happens when starting the gameplay, no warning will be shown.
    ● Improved the behavior of the mouse cursor and window positions in-game. The in-game space will now always be consistent with the graphical representation of the gameplay. This fixes various issues that were present in windowed gameplay (one of them previously required “UnhideT17WindowInGame” to be resolved).
    ● When running frontend in windowed mode, bringing the window to the foreground through a taskbar click will now work properly.
    ● When AlternativeWhiteFieldsFix is enabled, if the colour depth of your system is lower than 32-bit, it will now be set to 32-bit for this mode to work.
    ● Now an error will be thrown if the wndmode.dll file, required by the module, was not found in the WWP directory.
    ● Various other fixes: reworked most of the code, preventing potential issues that were possible before.
